In this episode we address a topic that comes up often when dealing with NetSuite, and really any type of cloud software. That is: Do I need to perform backups, and what do I do about them? We discuss the use of full CSV exports and System Note exports, and the use of automation software such as WGET. Then we look at the use of third party products such as those provided by Sesame Software which also work with the Salesforce CRM. We also talk about the backups that Oracle does for the NetSuite system, corrupt records, and accidentally or maliciously deleted records.
In this episode we take a look at a very general question about how customizable NetSuite is, and what problems can popup after implementing NetSuite. We talk about customizing the look and feel of input and printed forms, and using custom fields and record types to capture more data. We talk about customizing the work centers and dashboards (including the use of widgets) in NetSuite to allow your users to work more efficiently. We touch on setting user permissions and roles. We talk about customizing the behavior of they system through the use of workflows, scripting and system configuration. We also talk about add-on modules, components, and bundles that can enhance the functionality of the system. Then we cover third party apps, and using integrations such as those provided by web services and the REST based API. Lastly we cover vendor lock in.
With older traditional on-premise systems there was always an option to simple leave the old system around where it was available. With newer cloud or SaaS systems, you have to keep paying to keep the system around. In this video we take a look at the reality that there may come a time when you need to leave NetSuite, and what can be done to confidently move when you need to pull the plug. These actions include performing a full CSV export, using a data retention plan, exporting from saved searches, and exporting financial reports.
Today we take a look at parent / child relationships and how they can be implemented on the vendor record using custom fields. This allows one vendor to be related to another vendor in the system and thus a vendor hierarchy can be created. We go through the entire process of creating custom field and using it to link vendor records together, as well as briefly talk about customizing how this appears on entry forms. We also talk about using contacts and sharing those contacts between records, and using what was created for rollup reporting and saved searches.
In this video we talk about large item/product groups and kits, and some common problems encountered when entering a large amount of data into a sales order. We also provide some solutions for times when you must have large sales orders which can fail for a variety of reasons most commonly a browser session timeout. We talk about using assemblies and kits, and when you would want to use each of those vs item groups. We also talk about the display components on transactions checkbox and how it affects display and printed forms in the system. Lastly we cover using CSV imports for large transactions.
In todays video we talk about the use of custom fields and field sourcing, and specifically how they relate to projects, purchase orders and item receipts. We look at how data can flow from one transaction to the next in the transaction stream, and how to configure this. We also cover how to setup and place the custom field on the form.
In this video we take a look at creating custom company and employment records and how we could conceptually design a system that would be able to let employees at a large company find people they had previously worked with at a different company based on times and dates worked and the overlap thereof. We take a look at how the custom tables or records could be setup and the relationships between them, as well as how the programmatic behavior could be created. Lastly we go through NetSuite and look at an overview of where to create the various pieces of the solution and what those pieces are.
